SUSTAINABILITY
Unfortunately sustainability has become a bit of a buzz word these days, but here at printunited we are at least trying to do our bit however small that may be. I John Wooderson have been running the business since 2003 and I can honestly say that I haven’t bought a single ream of paper since starting out in the beginning, since then all my paperwork has been printed either on already printed paper or plain paper that has been left in donated printers etc. I have never bought a printer to print on (for obvious reasons), all my printing is carried out on old and used machines which I have acquired over the years. Nor have I bought any ink or toner for said printers, I only use what I have already acquired and when they run out they go into storage.
Most of my printers are either reused to fix other printers or eventually recycled at the local wee recycling centre, I keep a certain amount of machines that are unrepairable or donated and will often use some of the parts to fix some of my client’s units. With the cost of spare parts generally being so high, this does reduce the amount of printers going straight to landfill. We cannot use and recycle everything but at least we are slowing down the process, and as I said previously “doing our bit”.
Printer repairs by its very nature is at least attempting to be sustainable, unfortunately we are beaten by the way that they are manufactured these days but I think most people would prefer to repair their printers rather than simply throw them out.
